TPE update sometime next week

I should have an update to The Photographer’s Ephemeris available by mid-next week.

The forthcoming version (Beta 0.7.5) will add fully automated support for daylight savings time to round out the timezone features. This has involved some heavy lifting to implement, and when done, in total, the timezone and daylight savings time features will probably comprise – to my surprise – around a third of the code base.

I hate timezones. Arbitrary, awkward, inconsistent outputs of politicians and tectonic plate movements!

Timezones and daylight savings policies get changed frequently and somewhat unpredicably. Anecdotally, I heard from my wife that her home state of Queensland, Australia rejected daylight savings on account of the ‘fact’ that it would (i) disturb the cows and (ii) fade curtains.

There you have it.

Think it’s really cool! Been wanting to write a post about it, but preferably with an example. Only problem for the example is that weather is shite for the moment in Bxl.

Hi Mike – thanks for stopping by. Do let me know how you find the program – would be great to hear how it’s working out for people.

The weather’s none to great here either – about 18” of snow on our table in the garden…
